We gathered on a breezy, sunny, Spring day to help set the tone for an annual ceremony by Madison Center's S-O-S (Sexual Offense Services) program. Our outdoor practice session pretty much turned into Prelude as people began to gather. The organizers let Judith know when they were ready to begin, and we finished drumming and listened to the eloquent guest speaker, Marcie, tell her story. When people were invited to write a message on a piece of paper and attach it to the tree, we sang, "I Am Whole." The ceremony concluded with Marcie singing Mariah Carey's "Hero." Drummers and particpants slowly joined hands and formed a circle around her as she sang. The ceremony complete, everyone went indoors for refreshments and sharing of poetry and stories. |
